Since the Roman era, villas in Italy have played a central role in the economic and civic life of the Bel Paese. Initially conceived as country houses for the wealthier classes, over the centuries the intended use has changed: there are several examples of villas used for clerical purposed or indipendent farmhouses i.g. Starting from the fifteenth century, in the Renaissance era, the Villa became a place of recreation away from urban residences with lush gardens and beautiful fountains to relax and enjoy the own vacation. The architecture changed gradually from the opulence up to the neo-classical style of 1700, in which we find most rigorous and classical elements.
